Access to medical forensic examinations conducted by trained nurses and clinicians for survivors of sexual violence is essential to promoting healing. For survivors with intellectual disabilities, there are usually additional layers of barriers and challenges to accessing this level of holistic care. Activating Change and the International Association of Forensic Nurses have collaborated to create a three-part webinar series specifically designed for clinicians who perform sexual assault medical forensic exams to increase their knowledge and confidence in providing care to and supporting adult survivors with intellectual disabilities. Over the course of this series, nurses will gain: • Knowledge about the lived experience of adults with intellectual disabilities • Valuable insights into the unique barriers experienced by adults with intellectual disabilities • A deeper understanding of the supports and accommodations nurses can provide during the exam to reduce the barriers felt by adults with intellectual disabilities We invite you to join us for this important series to improve outcomes after sexual assault for survivors with intellectual disabilities.
